It’s sculpture time
We really enjoyed learning about sculptures this week in art! We were amazed to see lots of different sculptures made out of lots of different things (even number 2s!!). We loved working together to build and make a sculpture out of anything we could find in the room. Miss Dugan was impressed with our imagination!
Zoolab
We were so brave when the Zoolab came in with so many different animals. We were able to touch and hold a range of animals from around the world such as a snake, African snail, Lizard, Gerbil, Millipede and we even saw a giant spider (Miss Dugan was very scared!). We found out so many facts about each animal and even impressed the Zoolab lady by asking brilliant questions.
Halving maths work
We have really been challenged this week in Maths and we have been learning about halving. We now know that we divide even numbers by 2. We have tried so hard this week and so Miss Dugan gave us a challenge of Halving word problems. We used stones outside to help us share out the number and we used chalk to write it down as a number sentence!
We are going on a… country hunt!
We have kick started our around the world topic this week by going on a treasure hunt! We had different clues and we had to look all around the school for pictures that would give us a hint as to which country we are focusing on this week!
We guessed the country easily (especially when we saw the American flag!).
Have a look at our treasure hunt
Explorer time
We are all ready for our final half term in Year 1! We are excited about travelling around the world discovering different countries. This week we have been explorers. We have learned about Christopher Columbus and how he accidently found America. The children thought he was very silly! We even became explorers ourselves.. take a look at use on our ships shouting ‘LAND AHOY!’
PJ PARTY!
Because we have all be so fantastic this half term we earned all our 10 smiley faces! We had so many ideas as to what we could to for our treat but we finally decided on a pyjama party! We all had our PJs on snuggled on the carpet to watch Paddington Bear. Miss Dugan even treated us to ice lollies and popcorn! Most of the popcorn ended up on the floor but it was all good fun!
Soldiers to attention!
We have had great fun being introduced to sewing. At first we found it tricky but we finally got the hang of it. We had to design our own London soldier first and then we practised sewing first. After that we were able to sew around our finger puppet, this was the tricky part but we did really well! Finally we got to add all the detail. We are really pleased with them as look brilliant. Have a look!
